All meals are served in the dining hall, located on the lower ground floor. The dining hall is the social hub of the Hall. We hope that you will eat your meal in the dining hall and take the opportunity to meet friends and the staff.
Fees for single, single en-suite, and twin rooms include breakfast (brunch at weekends) and dinner every day. We regret that we are not able to cater for special diets.
Seconds may be available after the end of service at dinner time.
Meal times may differ slightly during public and University holidays; any changes will be advertised on the Hall noticeboards in advance. When there are very few residents in Hall during Christmas and the summer vacation, our kitchen may close and meal provision will be made in one of the other nearby intercollegiate halls.
Below are some sample menus from 2011. These give a good idea of the types of food and options served, but please remember our menus change with each term and with every year, so you might not see these exact menus again. There are usually three main course options at dinner: at least one is always vegetarian.
You can request a packed breakfast if you have an early lecture or sports fixture, Monday – Saturday, and have to leave the Hall before breakfast opens at 8.00 am.
Packed breakfasts contain a croissant, two mini muffins, a piece of fruit, and a carton of juice.
You must request your packed breakfast at reception before 5.00 pm on the day before the breakfast is required; we cannot accept late requests. You can pick it up from reception the next morning before 8.00 am.
Packed breakfasts are not available for residents in flats, studios, or double en suite rooms.
You can request a packed supper any day if, for academic or sports reasons only, you cannot get back to the Hall by 7.30 pm.
Packed suppers contain a sandwich, packed salad, or jacket potato, a carton of soup or a selection of sweet treats, a carton of fruit juice, and either a yoghurt or a piece of fruit.
You must request your packed supper and leave your Hall ID card at reception before 11.00 am on the day the supper is required; we cannot accept late requests. You may collect your food from reception after 7.30 pm that evening.
There is a tea & coffee machine and a soft drinks vending machine in the reception lobby. Out hot drinks machine prepares fresh, high quality coffee, hot chocolate, and a range of teas and herbal infusions for just 70p – or £1 for cappuccino / mocha / latte / caramel hot chocolate.
